Elvis

King Snake

Elvis came to Wildworks as a very young snake when he was only a few inches long. Even though snakes have a special jaw that allows them to open their mouth wide enough to consume something three times the size if their own head, Elvis was so small that he had to be fed very tiny bits of food. He has graduated to a meal of one small mouse per week!

King snakes are native to Southern California and display a variety of banded color variations; cream and light brown, white and dark brown (like Elvis) and the black, white and red king snake, which is similar in appearance to the venomous coral snake. The king snake is a specialized hunter and consumes a variety of reptiles including the rattlesnake. All king snakes are constrictors and are harmless to people and pets and Elvis is now a valuable snake ambassador in our Wildworks educational programs.
