His Story

gopher snake

Jake was donated to Wildworks in 2008 by a family who had found him hiding in their home when he was a small, young snake. The little girl in the family really liked him and wanted to care for him so they decided to keep him as a pet and he lived with them in their home for eight years. When Jake started to outgrow his aquarium they began their search for a wildlife center that could house the four-foot long snake and utilize him for educational purposes. He has now found a permanent home at Wildworks. Gopher snakes are constrictors but they are similar in appearance to the venomous rattlesnake and people often confuse the two. Jake is now a regular participant in our educational outreach programs, helping to dispel the many fears surrounding snakes and teaching people about the value of reptiles.
